The church, located on the square of St. Francis, is a part of the monastery complex site on the northwest edge of the historic center. From historical sources that the Church was built starting in 1247 and finished in its original Romanesque – Gothic style, in 1303 (the date placed on the access portal recover in what is today the sacristy). In 1660 the church was renovated and underwent a total transformation (access was built in what was the apse) becoming a clear and at the same time a unique example of Baroque style. The original church remain significant elements for beauty and grandeur and that can be highlighted in the marble tomb of the parents of Cardinal Partino dated 1310 and in the cycle of paintings that he frescoed the semi-circle apse higher. For the Church of St. Francis it was also backed Altarpiece by Carlo Crivelli, who is currently in the remaining parts of the break-up, in the Church of Saint Lucia, but remained in place until the early unification of Italy.
