There are no records of the birth of the Church of San Benedetto but you know for sure that underwent a restoration in 1546 by the work of William Lombardo, as reported by etching the pointed portal in tufa stone. A tower of the walls of Montemonaco was incorporated into the church and used as a tower where are located 3 bells. The interior has three naves with cross vaults resting on columns of tufa. In a niche is left of the relic of the left arm of St. Benedict that was donated to Montemonaco by countryman Count Domenico Garulli (captain of the armies of Charles V) that withdrew from the Cathedral of Siena in 1554 during the war between the ‘ Empire and the Papacy. In principle in the Church of San Giovanni Battista, he was later moved to its present location in 1572, when he was appointed the goldsmith Christopher Quarantotti to realize a silver arm to safeguard the relic of St. Benedict. Inside you can also admire valuable masterpieces such as paintings and frescoes, confessional in carved wood, a wooden crucifix from the late fifteenth century. and a terracotta statue depicting the Virgin Mary holding the Christ on his knees just taken down from the Cross, by the Marche of the fifteenth century.
