Funghetti, literally small mushrooms, are very simple cakes made of water, sugar, flour and anise. Originally they were available in the shape of a rosetta (small rose), since a certain amount of melted sugar joined a few of them together, the only inconvenience was that they tended to become very hard in a few days time. Today, they are also available as single funghetti, much smaller and softer, but lightly different in taste from the original ones.
