The historic park of San Rocco is a beautiful Italian-style park which lies on a vast area north of the town centre. It’s building began in 1892 when Coccaro hill was levelled thanks to the cooperation of all the citizens who used shovels, baskets and hoes to move an incredible amount of soil. The brave architect who undertook this colossal endeavour was Luca Galli, a Monterubbiano resident who also artfully designed the municipal cemetery and the theatre. The pleasantly cool temperature and calming silence provide visitors with blissfully peaceful moments. The majority of the trees are holly oak which give the park an emerald green colour year round. The park also contains various species of pine, linden, Judas tree. Many species of birds, as well as red and gray squirrels live in the park. There are a few busts in the park, mostly bronze, which depict eminent citizens, scientists, scholars of Monterubbiano who proved excellent capabilities which honoured their field of work and their native town.
