Along the road SS. 16 Adriatica, Km. 3 north of today’s city center is an archaeological site where Roman and Medieval insist the remains of the urban layout of the Roman town of Cupra which is located in a territory already frequented intensively during the Lower Palaeolithic Middle and along the river terraces of Menocchia and Aso and of particular importance in the Piceno period, in relation to the presence of international shrine dedicated to the goddess Cupra. The complex has been identified following the work for the installation of a gas station. The archaeological park covers an area of about 32 hectares. Fulcrum of the area, as well as the ancient city, is the hole, which vaguely rectangular shape and measures approximately 90 meters in an east-west and 60 from north to south. In the westernmost part of the terrace emerge the most important remains of the forum and a temple of Venus flanked by two arches fees, set in a landscape of great beauty. Just outside of the Roman city, along the Adriatic State, you can see the structures of a villa with a nymph, frequented until the fourth century. A.D. and a thermal building with mosaics late-imperial. Subsequent excavation work have allowed us to shed light on the steam bath with tub spa building, called “Nero’s baths”: here are visible portions of mosaic floors and suspensurae. The nymph has quadrangular with central basin, walls decorated with niches and painted with square motifs and central exedra frescoed with marine scenes. Below of the bath was found that there was a previous production plant refers to the Republican era, which were brought to light an environment with a press and a second adjoining room with floor in opus signinum. Related to funerary monuments at newsstands are brick structures visible near the city gate and called ruins Tesei Massignano.
