Right under the town of Arquata del Tronto, probably in the position of the ancient Surpicanum, is located the Church of SS. Salvatore (“the Saviour”). This churchhad been built in the middle of a little plain, surrounded by a forest, which seems to preserve the area from modern life. During the Medieval Age in this plain had also been built a Hospital for all the pilgrims on route to Rome from the Adriatic Sea. The Holy Mass is celebrated here only once a year, during the patronal feast, right after the procession of the Crucifix of SS. Salvatore.
