In the heart of the hamlet of Capodacqua, bordering the Lazio region and the Municipality of Accumoli, is located a real jewel of ancient architecture: the octagonal oratory dedicated to the Madonna del Sole (Holy Virgin of the Sun), probably following the project of master Cola d’Amatrice. The Bell Tower dates it 1558, while the temple had been built in 1528. The octagonal shape has a symbolic meaning, as the meeting of the square (the Earth) and the Circle (the Sun), representing the safety of the soul offered by the Holy Virgin to believers.
Several symbols of Moon and Sun are represented alla round the structure, while inside several beautiful frescos dated XVI century are representing scenes of miracles.
