Spelonga is the most populated of all hamlets of the Arquatan territory, characterized by a strong sense of belonging amongst its inhabitants: the “Festa Bella” (“Beautiful Feast”) is the symbol of village participation to the sense of belonging to this beautiful territory. The whole village has a rich and interesting patrimony of ancient houses, which witnesses a history of wealth for many of its families. In Spelonga is located Sant’Agata’s Church, with many frescos made by masters Panfilo da Spoleto and Cola D’Amatrice. But the masterpiece of the whole Church is a war trophy: a Turkish flag which belonged to a Turkish navy ship, stolen during Lepanto’s battle in 1571 by the soldiers of Spelonga.
